5TH ANNUAL ONE DESIGN REGATTA

The North Carolina Maritime Museum on Roanoke Island and the Friends of the Museum, North Carolina Maritime Museum, Inc. will be hosting the 5th Annual One Design Regatta on Saturday, July 28, 2007. In addition to local boat entries, boats are expected form New Bern, Edenton, Elizabeth City, and Winston-Salem.

The regatta is open to Optimist, 420, Sunfish, and Laser sailboats. A youth and masters division, age 16 and older will be run for the Sunfish fleet. The regatta will be held on the Manteo waterfront in Shallowbag Bay. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with the first race starting at noon. An entry fee of $20 per boat is required to enter. The entry fee includes one dinner and one t-shirt. Additional dinner tickets and t-shirts will be available for purchase. Following the racing, a dinner will be featured and awards will be presented to the top three boats in each class.

This year’s event is sponsored by the Town of Manteo Police Department, Embarq, Historic Old Town Merchants Association, and Davenport Architecture & Design. Special awards and door prizes will be provided by West Marine, Annapolis Performance Sailing, Ronstan and Harken
